terranets bw - an overview

terranets bw is an independent transmission system operator for natural gas. For over 50 years we have been operating a pipeline system with a length of approx. 2000 km and high pressure gas equipment with the newest technology in Baden-Württemberg.

With our transmission system, we ensure the non-discriminatory shipping of natural gas and guarantee a technically secure supply for our customers. Today, more than two thirds of all towns and communities in Baden-Württemberg as well as parts of Switzerland, Vorarlberg and the Principality of Liechtenstein are connected to our transmission system.

In addition, we provide a telecommunication network with a length of around 2000 km with corresponding technical equipment and devices.

With around 235 employees and over 50 years’ experience, we offer our customers a wide range of services for natural gas transmission, telecommunication and technical and other services.

Near the famous ruined castle in Heidelberg lies our location in Rhine valley. Our employees are responsible for monitoring and maintenance of our underground storage facility for natural gas, which supports the natural gas transport system in Baden-Württemberg.

On the plains of the Upper Rhine near the baroque town of Karlsruhe lies our location in the north west of Baden-Württemberg. Our employees are responsible for around 300 km of natural gas pipeline, 3 supply stations, our compressor station and maintenance of numerous gas stations from Lampertheim to Baden-Baden and Karlsruhe to Neckarsulm.

Kirchheim unter Teck

At the foothills of the Swabian Alb lies our location in the south east of Stuttgart. Our experienced employees are accountable for around 2.000 km of telecommunication network and ensure high-speed internet connection throughout the whole of Baden-Württemberg.

Between the Black Forest and Vogesen in the west of Baden-Württemberg, lies our location near Offenburg. Our employees in the Rhine valley are responsible for all maintenance and reconstruction work done on our transmission systems, technical stations and gas stations in the south west region. Their area of responsibility reaches from Baden-Baden to the Swiss border.

Near Rottweil, the oldest town in Baden-Württemberg lies our location nestled between the Swabian Alb and the Black Forest. Our employees are responsible for all maintenance and reconstruction work done to the natural gas transmission system, technical stations as well as gas stations from Stuttgart to Lake Constance and guarantee a reliable and secure natural gas supply.

In the middle of meadows, forests and gentle hills lies our location on the southern edge of the Swabian Alb, near the university town of Ulm in the east of Baden-Württemberg. Our employees are responsible for maintenance and monitoring of our compressor station and round 600 km of natural gas transmission pipeline as well as 42 gas and delivery stations from Heidenheim to the Austrian border.

Terranets bw headquarters

The state capital Stuttgart, spread out between forests and vineyards, is home to our headquarters. From here, as an independent Transmission System Operator, we control our pipeline system in Baden-Württemberg. Our employees at the head office are responsible for all administrative tasks from finance to technical network planning.

With our office near Crailsheim in Hohenlohe, the land of castles, we secure the supply of natural gas in the north east of Baden-Württemberg. Our employees are responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of around 260 km of natural gas pipeline, 45 control stations and 25 gas stations from Neckarsulm via Crailsheim to Heidenheim.

With approximately 250 employees at 8 locations we ensure the security of gas supply in Baden-Württemberg. And we have been doing so for more than 50 years.
In future, the gas infrastructure will be increasingly used for gas that has been produced from renewable energies. The coupling of the gas and electricity infrastructures is an important factor in the energy transition. In order for it to succeed, we are developing solutions today for the energy supply of tomorrow.
— Katrin Flinspach, Managing Director

Since 2012, the demand for gas transmission in Baden-Württemberg has risen by 30% – and the trend: it will continue to rise! To make sure we can continue to guarantee the security of energy supply, we are developing our infrastructure in line with demand. To achieve this, we place great importance on an early dialogue and a close communication exchange with municipalities, districts and their local inhabitants.
