Transmission System Operators contribute significantly to a secure supply of energy by providing reliable natural gas transmission. Continually increasing capacity demand has made it necessary to extend the transmission pipeline network in Baden-Württemberg. In order to increase natural gas transmission capacity for Baden-Württemberg, terranets bw constructed the new gas pipeline from Au am Rhein via Ettlingen and Pforzheim to Leonberg.
The Nordschwarzwald Pipeline in Au am Rhein means that terranets bw has an additional connection to the Trans Europa Naturgas Pipeline (TENP). TENP, which transports natural gas from the Netherlands to Switzerland and Italy, is one of the biggest and most important pipelines for the security of gas supply in Europe.
The first 15 km section of the Nordschwarzwald Pipeline from Au am Rhein to Ettlingen was constructed in 2014.
The second 54 km section between Ettlingen and Leonberg was completed in 2015/16.
On 22 January 2016 the Nordschwarzwald Pipeline was symbolically commissioned by the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Energy Industry of Baden-Württemberg, Franz Untersteller MdL, and the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of terranets bw, Dr. Hans-Josef Zimmer.
The Nordschwarzwald Pipeline enables Baden-Württemberg to increase shipping capacity in a sustainable way.
In order to ensure a sustainable security of supply in Baden-Württemberg, terranets bw will continue increasing the availability of firm capacity. Within the scope of the Network Development Plan Gas our company is committed to extending the transmission system in line with increasing demand and thus to meeting the capacity demands of Baden-Württemberg in the future. It is especially important to coordinate the pipeline extension plans in the different pipeline systems that will be realised by the German Transmission System Operators in the scope of the Network Development Plan.
